Referrals to Specialists
To be eligible for a Medicare rebate you are required to have either a GP/Specialist referral. If you are referred by a GP your referral is valid for 12 months. Specialist referrals are only valid for 3 months. If you think that your condition will require visits to Colorectal Surgery for a period longer than 3 months we suggest that you contact your GP to gain a referral for 12 months. If you are referred by a Specialist please advise on our Patient Information forms the name of the GP that you attend.

Correspondence
The Specialists at Colorectal Surgery keep all referring and treating medical practitioners informed of your progress. Please advise our Specialists or staff the names of medical practitioners that are currently involved in your treatment. Colorectal Surgery has ARGUS and email correspondence is preferred.

Privacy Policy
The practice requires collection of personal information about yourself and your personal history. This information is stored securely and is not given out unless the permission is sought from the patient. However to order tests such as radiological procedures and pathology tests we ask patients to sign a privacy policy consent so that we are able to release limited information.

Fee Policy
Colorectal Surgery is a private billing practice.

Each surgeon has their own fee and some have full fee payments on the day of consultation. You will be advised by staff when booking your appointment if your Surgeon does have this policy. All practices have EFTPOS facilities.

Some of our doctors require patients attending the private clinics to have health insurance. You will be asked this question when making an appointment. If you do not have health insurance then you will be directed to the Public Hospital at which these Surgeons consult and you will be able to make an appointment to see them at their outpatient clinics.

Some Surgeons charge an "Out of Pocket" expense for surgical procedures and these are outlined by our Patient Information forms or the Surgeon will discuss any "Out of Pocket" expense with you directly.
